Wow, the population of Connecticut grew by 4.9%. All of our major cities grew too. Not bad for a state that does not promote growth. Jay

Wanna bet it was due to better inner city counting this time around?

Look the demographics.

White: -.3%
Black: +16.9%
Hispanic +49.6%

That's where your growth took place.

Asian went up +64.7% but that's a bit skewed since there were not many here to begin with.

4.9% is a reasonable growth for a mature state. We do not have a lot of vacant land like other states have to sprawl across. Our cities seem to be growing after years of decline. If you look at the people that post here, many are looking to move to an urban environment. New Haven is the fastest growing city and is now No. 2??? Who saw that one coming? Jay

Oh no no no...the numbers I posted above are way off. Here are the real numbers:

Total population Increase +168,532

Hispanic or Latino (of any race) +158,764

Not Hispanic or Latino +9,768

One Race +3,159

White -92,583

Black or African American +39,548

American Indian and Alaska Native -382

Asian + 52,527

Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander x

Some Other Race +4049

Two or More Races +6609

Well, that's eye opening. The Asians, I have a feeling are Indian and Pakistani.

Honest answer? It's because they relocated many minorities to cities like Norwalk and Bridgeport to raise areas for development and there was not enough backfill of young professionals to make up the difference. JMO

^^ that's a load of bull. Minorities are not moving from Stamford to Bridgeport. The minorities who are already in Bridgeport are giving birth. That's why Bridgeport grew.

The truth is, a lot of blacks are moving from the north to the south in a reverse of the Great Migration that occurred during the rapid industrialization phase accompanying World War II. It's much cheaper to be poor in the Carolinas than to be poor in Connecticut. Stamford lost 1,000 blacks between 2000 and 2010, and I'm pretty sure they did not move to Norwalk and Bridgeport.

It's not a lot of bull. Development in Stamford has raised neighborhoods. Where do you think those people went, Greenwich?

And the "poor" in CT are well taken care of. Too well. You don't want to be "poor" in FL/NC etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by "raised neighborhoods" but if you mean "razed" then you're wrong
