Yes, I know

I live in north central Tolland county
and my homeowners has not changed ($165 a year) that is cheap. But within 15 miles of the shore-prices rise-as you have shown us.

The insurance companies are covering the risk factors. They hire climatologists in doing an analysis of the new paradigm of climate change. The risks for storms, hurricanes and coastal flooding is increasing. All along the east coast.

you are unique in that you are leaving AZ- and migrating to CT- obviously you liked what you saw along the south eastern CT shoreline (More folks are-along the states eastern part, as well- known as the 'quiet corner'.

My favorite uncle used to live in coastal Branford, right on the water. He was the only one in his family to leave Missouri. In 1985 we had a family reunion in Missouri, and I asked him why he chose Connecticut. His answer was "Connecticut chose me." This was in July of 1985, I was 18 years old and had about a month to go before I enlisted in the Air Force. I decided to spend that month with my uncle in Branford, just to see what all the hoopla was about.

I am an Air Force brat, and I myself have served in the Air Force, so I have lived just about everywhere, including Europe where I was born. I absolutely fell in love with coastal Connecticut, Guilford in particular. I don't know how to put into words what I like to much about it, other than to say "I get it". I get the people, the town, and the lifestyle. And it gets me. Or, as my uncle would say, Guilford chose me. I never felt that way about any other place in the world.

By the way, as I said I visited Connecticut in July and September of 1985; 5 days after I left Hurricane Gloria struck. Any my uncle died of a heart attack September 30th, while I was in basic training in San Antonio. When I move to Guilford I'll finally get to see where he's buried.

Sorry if that was more information than you wanted (lol), I can be a bit long-winded!

Very interesting plot from the family- Missouri is 'mid America'
Harry S. Truman- one of my heros

CT is a state that has much to offer- as well as the rest of New England.
All of us here in the CT and New England states are happy you have decided to live here- and we are flattered.

$1200 is alot for CT- but remember people in Florida have seen their homeowners soar to 5-10K a year.
In this 'new world order' of climate change- the insurance companies are taking no chances- anything near the coast- they jack up the rates.

Well, I'm off to Guilford! Actually I'm off to Las Vegas (AKA the eighth circle of hell) where I'll stay the night and catch an early morning flight. If I waited until tomorrow I'd have to leave my house at 2 in the morning. No thanks!

I have until friday to find a house; I need to at least get the paperwork started for my kids to start school. I'm so excited to see Guilford after all this time. Thanks to everyone who responded. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm in Clinton about a mile from the beach. Everyone around here pays around that much (depending on house size of course) and that is homeowners insurance only, car not included.

Believe me, I've called and called around many times and all agencies have quoted me the same. If you know anyone cheaper do tell! We only paid $400 a year with when we purchased the house some 8 years ago.

Audry

I doubt you will find anything less then what you are currently paying for homeowners. Most, if not all insurance companies have had their risk underwriters calculate into the future several climate change scenarios that could affect coastal CT.

These events may include; sea rise, flooding, storms, and lastly hurricanes. Climatologists have more then likely told these insurance companies of these likely bad case weather scenarios along the shoreline in the near future.

These companies cover themselves and want to reduce any kind of losses. Some have exited the shoreline altogether.

Good luck in finding something less expensive.
