Bought our first lawnmower at the Channel in Brookfield. Still have the receipt (not the lawnmower). Before that I think it was a discount dept store wasn't it? Woolco maybe? My brother was an ass't manager there before it closed. Wasn't there also a place called Jenungs in Danbury? My grandmother shopped there all the time. Used to also love to go to The El Dorado. They made the best sauteed soft shell crabs and their minestrone was awesome. I remember as a newlywed going into the Sears on main street in Danbury when they were closing it to move to the newly built mall store. They wouldn't sell us a little manual mitre box because "we have to send this to the new store so we can sell it there". Typical Sears. SOME things never change!

OMG Channel! I remember hearing that place!

This may be limited to Newington only, but if anyone knows Newington, they used to have a small store called Cashway Lumber.

That was the hardware store where Bob's Discount Furniture is now, right?

There was also a lot full of old beat up semi's and commercial trucks next door that is now Auto Zone and Maggie McFly's.

I don't think anyone mentioned Nationwide Warehouse....that huge store in Danbury (across from where Best Buy is now) that resembled Lechmere.

Was the toy chain store named "kaybee toys" perhaps? I remember one on the berlin trpke and one in west farms mall. They went out of business a few years ago.

Speaking of the Berlin Trpke for a brief time there was an excellent sub shop called "jersey mikes" in the plaza with WOW fitness. It closed a couple years ago for some reason. Too bad because they had some of the best "cold cut" subs i've ever eaten. They put subway + blimpie to shame.

I think there is a jersey mikes in Branford still, but I'm not sure.

Default Jersey Mike's

There is still a store in Branford, on Route 1 (Branford Hill). They make a great hot sub, too.

The gym could be LA fitness or planet fitness. They all look the same to me. This would be the same plaza that formerly had Lechmere's & kaybee toys. I think a jo ann fabrics is in the former lechmere building now.

Someone mentioned Tweeter earlier. I saw one about ten years ago in DE or PA. Not sure if they are still in business down there now though.

They had car hops and served you at your car. Jay

There are at least 2 A&Ws in Northern Virginia, but I'm sure they're just a shadow of what the original used to be. My older sisters remember the drive-in A&Ws, with the car hops who'd put the tray on the door edge; I was too young at the time, so I don't have any memories of this. One thing they keep telling me: The Papa Burgers, Mama Burgers, Baby Burgers.
I picked up one of the mugs not too long ago (for the A&W vanilla cream soda!)
