What about the marketing and IT fields? Are there plentiful jobs in these areas?

There is a good job market for marketing (particularly on the research side) in Fairfield County. That's what my husband and I do.

IT can be hit or miss. There is a lot of outsourcing. People I know in the field say it can be difficult, but I think that is a problem everywhere these days. Jay

Jay (or anyone who knows),
Can you elaborate. What do you mean by taxes on you autos? Just when they are purchased or annual?
Thanks

When you purchase, you pay 6% sales tax. You get an annual tax bill from the town you live in. The amount varies based on the mill rate of the town. They tax you on 70% of the fair market value (which i believe all towns use kelly blue book for values). The lower the town's mill rate the lower the taxes. A car assessed at 7,000 and a town with a mill rate of 25 = $175 tax for the year. the taxes should go down yearly if you keep the car, the longer you keep it the more it depreciates in value, as long as the mill rate doesn't increase drastically.

I'm in the Mortgage Banking (Servicing) field. I grew-up in Connecticut, (Manchester and Windsor), but moved to the 'wild west' (San Francisco Bay area). I've always wanted to return to the Hartford area, but it's the old bugaboo: a decent paying job in the Hartford area, other than in the insurance field!

Given the Sub-Prime Mortgage fall-out, are there any Mortgage-related jobs in the greater Hartford area? (There must be a large contingent of the unemployed with the demise of MLNUSA in Middletown and Wallingford!)

Due to CT's low unemployment rate, and especially since I would be considered an 'outsider' trying to find employment from outside of CT,
would it be fair to surmise that I'm going to encounter difficulty in returning 'home', and not being taken seriously by an agency/and/or local employers? I'm trying to get the hard facts, as I'm under no illusion that things have changed in the employment landscape in Hartford, or CT, for that matter. (I have been away from CT for quite a few years, and haven't been back since my last visit in 1981!)

Any tips on a good employment agency or headhunter in the Hartford area specialising in Banking/Finance field would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Yup, that's exactly how it works in MA too, except it's a standard mill rate of 25 here for the whole state.

a standard mill rate would be the more "fair" way of doing it. When the they were contemplating riding the car tax (no tax in CT??) there was an article in the paper how a new Mercedes E-class in Greenwich, CT paid less taxes than a four year old Chevrolet Cavalier in Waterbury, CT ..or something along those lines.
