Hi everyone!

I am going to be moving to CT in a few months, and I want to see if anyone has any advice on where I could potentially look for a place to live. I am looking for an apartment preferably in the West Hartford area..I'm willing to go farther away from West Hartford (ex. Manchester..) as long as it's safe. I'm a female in my mid-20s. It doesn't have to be around too much, I actually prefer a quieter part of the neighborhood. Any advice would be great.

Thank you!!

What's your budget for a place to live, and what requirements do you have? One bedroom? Two? How many baths? Townhouse or flat? Single building with many apartments in it, or spread out townhouse-style? Amenities? Security gate? Parking, access to public transportation? Walking distance to stores?

Hard to say what's available, til we hear what -kind- of environment you're looking for. Especially your price range.

I would like to keep my budget around 900-950. I would like either a studio or one bedroom with parking. Other than that, I'm fairly flexible.

Thank you so much your help in advance!

You do not mention where you will work so I will assume it is west of Hartford. West Hartford would be a good place to start. Jay

I am actually going to be a graduate student in West Hartford and will be working in the area as well. Are there any complexes that you could recommend?

I'd recommend staying away from the apartments along Kane Street. I worked for a contractor who was there a couple times a year. It's below your price range but hearing the drivers report back, it sounded like a pretty unpleasant set of complexes. Lots of things in a constant state of disrepair.

Is Hillside Avenue a good area? I saw a few complexes along that street. I was also looking into Newington and Glastonbury. Are those good areas? Would that commute be terrible with traffic? I'm originally from New York, so I'm used to a decent amount of traffic

Glastonbury is a really good area, but might be a little pricey.

If you move to CT, DO stay in West Hartford. It is one of the few places in CT that I would say is actually worth living in.

It is charming and relatively peaceful, but with plenty to do - especially being only minutes away from Hartford, which is undergoing some serious revitalization as we speak.

Oh come on...There are *plenty* of places worth living in the state besides WH.

As for the revitalization of Hartford, yea maybe 5 years ago. Everything has ground to a halt, and not much happening. The city is pretty stagnant...well aside from the government funded projects.
