We are looking at relocating from England to CT. I will be working in Shelton and my wife in Hartford.

We are trying to work out where is best to live. I don't mind commuting, so I am thinking the Farmington area could be quite good (I know I will have a bit of a drive, but it should be quick into Hartford).

We will be looking to rent and our budget would be $2k - $2.5k.

We don't have any children, so schools are not an issue.

Thanks for any suggestions/comments - Ed

I'd suggest looking at Southington. Decent middle class town about halfway between Shelton and Hartford.

Depends on what you're looking for. Without worrying about schools, it opens up the possibility of living in a more urban environment if you're looking for more things to do.

Will check out Southington as well then.

Does the traffic tend to be bad going into HArtford in the morning rush hour?

It tends to get heavy in West Hartford going into Hartford.

Also, Cheshire is a lot more charming than Southington, and is situated in between as well. Very nice town.

I would suggest towns along the I-91 or Route 15 corridor. Cepending on how far you want to be from Shelton I would start right outside of Hartford and consider Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Middletown, Wallingford and North Haven. Hamden is about the halfway point. It is up to you if you want to go closer to Shelton and further from Hartford. Jay

Hamden is about 35 miles from Hartford and only 14 miles from Shelton.

Thanks everyone. We are coming over in a week so we will check out these towns. Had not even considered Weathersfield or Rocky Hill as assumed it would be a longer drive to Shelton, but looking at Google directions, it seems exactly the same.

On a different note, is a rear wheel drive car a bad idea in CT because of the snow?

We have a Z4 in the UK, but am thinking this would be a bad idea in the snow
