I'm a 22 year old living at home with my two parents and my sister. My sister is headed to boot camp. My parents are starting an ugly divorce. I don't have my license (I'll get it back in September) and my job doesn't pay enough to pay my bills plus rent. I am going back to school in the fall (I'll have to find another job that will be a huge cut in pay) but I am not eligible for on campus housing.

My dad is probably diagnosible, my guess is bipolar disorder. About once a week he freaks out on me and my mom, threatening to kick me out for no reason at all. I'm self-reliant, respectful, and I keep out of his way. I guess my question is what are my rights as tenant if he does decide to kick me out? Can he legally throw me out at a moment's notice?

I don't pay rent, have no written contract, and rules of the house are altogether nonexistent. I'm feeling pretty vulernable, and could use the knowledge of exact laws to give me peace of mind. Any other relavent advice would be great too. Thanks!

If your not paying rent, then how are you a tenant?? It sounds like you just still live with your parents. Unfortunately, I think they can kick you out if they want to.

I didn't want to even get involved with this thread, because i know where it will eventually lead.

The operative word is "they". If both parents are listed as owners, both obviously have a say in who stays and who goes.

I would personally follow your sister to boot camp and let the military pay for your education after enlistment.

As others have said, you really do have no rights. You're 22 and still living rent-free with your parents. I'm definitely not bi-polar, but even I would probably freak out on you once a week, too. Sorry and good luck.
