Hi,

My wife and I are taking up new jobs in Stamford, CT. We are new to USA, and are looking for suggestions as to where to stay. We don't mind a 20-30 minutes drive, one way. We have a budget of around $1000 a month as rental. Please suggest.

Thanxaton.

If in southwestern CT and the Stamford area- $1000 a month is not going to go very far- A 20-30 minute commute drive to the northeast will still see you in very pricey Fairfield county. You might find a 1 bedroom Apartment in Danbury or Bethel for about $1150-1250 a month. If you expand your commute time more, you may perhaps be able to find something less. Fairfield county and southwestern Connecticut are very expensive compared to the rest of the state.

Default Re:

It seems I'll have to revise my rental budget upwards by a couple of hundred of $, which, if necessary, I will. How far are Danbury/Bethel from Stamford ? Are these good locations ? Also, what location would you suggest I rent a house in, if budget can be revised upwards ? I need someplace which is (primarily) safe, is at a convenient distance from the market and medical facilities, and is a residential area. Also, please give me an esitmate of rentals and general cost of living in the areas you suggest, please.

Thanks.

Danbury (pop 65000) and nearby Bethel (pop 18,000) are towns about 27 miles to the Northeast of Stamford via I 95 and US RT 7. Both are nice towns. Danbury is more diverse then Bethel.- There are great shopping opportunities in the Danbury area and there is a large hospital. Both towns have a low crime rate.
A good 1 bedroom apartment in Stamford would cost around $1600. Rentals will be 200-300 dollars a month less in Danbury.
The cost of living in Danbury while high, will be less in then in Stamford.

The commute to stamford from danbury/bethel sucks. Route 7 is only one lane and 95 forget about it.

Default New job in Stamford

I would agree with Gomet, you do not want to commute from Danbury or Bethel to Stamford if you can avoid it.

Email me and we can discuss this further.

Try Trumbull, Norwalk, Fairfield, Stratford. If you don't have any kids, Norwalk should work for you. The part of Norwalk that is close to Westport is pretty nice. You should be able to find something their.

There is a train that runs from Danbury to Stamford. The train is run by Metro North and is a much, much better option than driving to Stamford.
