Is this normal or just the state of the economy? Fortunately, I was able to park on the street. I expected a small fee, but not that much.

Isn't it more on the weekends?

Sherwood Island is $20.

At least Silver Sands is still free (for now).

When I lived near Sleeping Giant I always parked on the street. I was a poor college student, I couldn't afford to pay to hike!

Silver Sands is the best deal in the state! However, it still icks me out because growing up in Milford, I know that area is a former garbage dump.

I understand it's an ongoing cleaning process? Fortunately the dump was never on the beach itself and more inland in the wetlands, where you can't walk on it anyway.

Can't even comprehend how it was acceptable to have a dump in such a beautiful location.

People's State Forest is like $8 to park I think. Totally ridiculous. I just park by the trailhead. By the way, does anyone know of some good relatively isolated hiking trails like Peoples State? I've been to Ragged Mountain, Talcott Mountain, and Sleeping Giant which are all too populated for my tastes and not very rugged. Bear Mountain in the NW corner is pretty nice.

it's ridiculous what some states, especially NY and CT charge for parking. Even though it's not CT, I'm from NY and go back quite often to visit, Anyway, we went to go to our old beach to hike last time, used to be a few years ago if you got in before 8AM it was free, now they start charging for parking at 5AM on the weekends...geeze.

I go to my town park in Glastonbury now to hike, free to park, my tax dollars are keeping the park open, I might as well utilize it to hike. Decent trails too, J.B. Williams park.

But yeah I agree we get taxed more than most states here, then they charge the crap out of us to use what our tax dollars are maintaining, just to park!

Short Beach and Long Beach. There isn't any foot access to Pleasure Beach(which is actually in Bpt.)
