My lease ends on Oct 31. They jacked up the rent to $1,275 for a renewal, which is not cool for a 1 br in Middletown. I am done with renting apartment complexes. My next rental will be privately owned townhouse, duplex or single family home. I'll probably rent for just one more year, and then buy sometime in late 2012.
That is insane for a 1 bedroom in Middletown. It should be under $1,000. I agree you should look for a condo to rent from a private owner. At least they normally would not jack up the rent each year. Jay

It is truly insane, yes. I am currently paying $1,165, so to renew for another year would be a whopping $110 increase. My other option is to rent month-to-month for $1,403 per month! My father is a landlord and when I told him that, he said they need to "stick it up their ___." I mean, the apt is less than 800 square feet!
Yeah, you were worried about rent in Milford given a job switch, but that's edging high even for there. Definitely move.
