I wouldn't live IN Hartford and New Haven. Also keep in mind that if you live in Milford, you won't have access to the Orange/Woodbridge/Bethany school district (which is excellent, but overrated from what I've heard from local parents).

The downtown/harbor-area and coast in Milford are beautiful. It is more expensive than New Haven and Hartford but less expensive than FFC/Stamford-metro. Comparable to West Hartford rents. Like West Hartford, it is very safe. You also have access to the Metro North train. It gives you good central access to many school systems.

Yeah! I've been waiting for them to open. Was supposed to open in July. I wish it was downtown and not in Milford Crossing, but I'll take it. I'm curious to see how it compares to Prime 16 which - for me - has the best burgers in southern CT.

Never been to Prime. Plan B (terrible name) also specializes in pretty damned good fries, and excellent nachos made with potato chips instead of tortilla.

Awesome! Looking forward to it. Prime is so worth trying. Definitely go. Their beer/liquor selection is as epic as their burgers. And their parmesan truffle fries and beer battered onion rings are incredible.

SO Milford too far from Orange districts? Mapquest is deceptive. Do trains access Orange area? Guess I thought living in Bethany/other smaller communities would be too isolating.... But that may be the way to go.

Milford is CLOSE to the Amity district, but Milford students must go to Milford Public Schools - which are not bad. In CT, every town has their own school system. If you want to go to a neighboring district, you must pay whatever their per pupil cost is. Bottom line is if you'd like to send your kids to the Amity Schools (Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany), then you must live in one of those three towns.

If you can afford Woodbridge, live there. It's a beautiful, wealthy town. You have the shopping access of Orange on one side, and the plentiful horse farms of Bethany on the other.

The OP is not looking at school districts for her children, (I don't think she has any, or did I miss that? I thought she just has a horse?) she is looking for a school district to teach in. A commute from Milford to the Orange area would be very easy, and would also be fairly close to Bethany and Woodbridge, too.

Ahh - okay. Thanks for the correction, makes much more sense now.

That said, the OP shouldn't be TOO picky with districts to teach in. I'd just stay away from districts like New Haven, West Haven, Ansonia, Derby and Bridgeport - but that's just me. In this economy, beggars can't be choosers.
