Don't close down my thread, Mod. I'm trying to find something our family can do today, Labor Day, that would allow us to visit the coast possibly or the country towns inland from the coast.
Is Marlborough, Coventry, Salem still without power? How about Hebron?
There's many events planned on Labor Day, but don't want to travel all the way out there, only to find they aren't having an event cuz of the storm Irene!
Are there ANY beach towns with parks open today on the CT coastline?
Did any beach towns NOT get hurt and have been open for the last week?
DanaMarley - I will not shut this thread down. You are asking a good question on a separate topic. I do not have an answer for you but you can check the CL&P website for the towns with outages. Also I am pretty sure the state beaches are open. You can check the DEEP website for that oo. Jay

It was a bit late to be looking for something to do on Labor Day, if you are posting here on CD at almost noon - on Labor Day. Day's almost half over. Labor Day is one of the busiest "recreation days" of the year - normally you'd have made plans for it a couple weeks in advance, and contingency plans in case of rain (which - would apply, if you consider you probably wouldn't want to go to a beach when it's raining, so a hurricane causing it to be closed can count as a "beach isn't an option" day).
Maybe next year, check before your family should already be halfway to their destination, to see if the destination is an option.
As for the day after labor day, beaches are generally open all year round; however the lifeguards and hot dog vendors and ice cream trucks usually mark Labor Day as the official end of the season. If you want to know which beach, in particular, is open tomorrow, considering the hurricane situation, you'd need to check the state park website for updates.
