Im looking into getting a "new" car but cant decide whether to get a 4wd truck. I recently moved to CT and I drive mostly to and from work on rt. 15. 4wd is handy in extreme situations but is it useful in most regular scenarios?

Well we purchased an AWD vehicle for the snow situtions that do occur. If you have a job that requires you to be there no matter what, 4WD can be useful and you will definatly use during the winter for sure.

We have two four wheel drive vehicles because of the weather here. It rarely is used often, but we would rather be safe than sorry. Jay

It's not necessary, but there are times when it comes in handy. I have an all wheel drive Subaru and a 4 wheel drive Toyota Tacoma. I prefer the Subaru when it comes to snow.

It all boils down to tires anyway. Do yourself a favor, buy a front wheel drive car and invest in some Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter and you will be perfectly fine. You will save a ton in gas and still get around perfectly.

I have front wheel drive and I've never had a problem. The only reasons I'd want 4wd is if I lived in a more rural area or had major sloping terrain to deal with. Rear wheel drive is another story...that would be more of an issue.

I have never had a problem driving front wheel drive at any time of year with all season tires. Roads are kept plowed and if there is going to be that much snow (blizzard) the state pretty much shuts down. I think 4WD gives inexperienced drivers a false sense of security. I drive an average of 70 miles a day round trip with front wheel drive and the majority of cars I see off the road or flipped over in the winter are SUVs who thought they could still fly down the highway as if there were no snow on the ground.

Default 4WD...Not Needed in Connecticut......

Unless you are an off road enthusiast you don't need 4WD in Connecticut.
Front wheel drive will do just fine...Someone else mentioned good tires ...Awaste of space.as being key....they are absolutely right....I had a 4WD drive vehicle for years and rarely had to use it...A killer on gas

My husband had a job that required him to be there no matter what, and especially if there was a power outage, like in a blizzard. He got 4wd, it came in handy, then we moved to NC Would def get it if that's the case, but good tires and anti-lock brakes will be fine if not.
