We may be making an offer on a house in Ellington, CT. I see that the school district test scores are pretty good for this town. Does anyone have personal experience with the different elementary schools in Ellington? We have three kids, with the oldest starting first grade.
Ellington is a beautiful rural community in Tolland County that is growing quite a bit with more upscale homes. The schools are considered to be very good with Connecticut Mastery Test scores exceeding the state average and class sizes around 20 students. Because the school district is fairly small, curriculum is pretty uniform across the schools in town. Good luck with your new home. Jay
I live near Ellington, and the town still retains its agricultural past, but is rapidly becoming a bedroom suburb of Hartford.
As Jay noted there are larger homes being built-sort of a 'semi Mc Mansion' variety-but the lot size is restrictive-so the town is not going to resemble a 'Mc Mansion Jungle'.
I have some very close friends who grew up in Ellington and are great people and quite successful. One just built a new house in Ellington on a nice large lot. I spent much time in Ellington growing up as well as we belonged to a golf course in town so we were there all the time. Just a great New England town.
Were going with Somers (from LI)because it seems like Ellington is turning into Night of the Living McMansions(not because of the Smell) and overdevelopment is concern for us.
They have great schools too and they just made the money100 best.
Ellington is a very close knit community in my experience. My mother in law lives there and is very proud to let people know it. The communtiy leaders appear to be sesitive when making decessions to fight the invasion of large complexes of businesses and enjoy the rural appearances of their town.
As the generation changes over the next decade or two it may be different.
I agree with the cult comment... i dated a person from Ellington that apparently had a huge association with this cult and i would never go back there ever. it is just too odd that there is such a high # of people in Ellington involved in all that.
