Well, the official estimate, according to corporate communications is that "the majority of CL&P customers will have their power restored by Monday, November 7th." Currently, 53% of all CL&P households are out of power.

Well, if that doesn't make for a nice CYA statement. If they get a mere 4% more back on line, they can claim a "majority", i.e. 51% have their power!

Well its the worst outage in the history of CL&P. 880,000 people lost power, and today 680,000 remain without power. 44 transmission lines were damaged in the storm. In fact, in the Tolland district, there are 2,000+ sites with downed wires. It will take a long time to repair. We have crews from other utility companies such as from South Carolina and Canada. Yes, they drove up here from SC with their bucket trucks. In fact, we had a crew from a California utility company load their bucket trucks onto aircraft and flew them all the way here to CT. Also, we are contacting some people who have retired from CL&P within the past 5 years to come out and help. That's how severe this storm is! And to top that off, Obama announced that CT will get federal disaster funds for this storm. That's the 3rd time this year!

Nice to hear all that...but I'm not the only one who thinks this is a wimpy response from CL&P

The first time, they get a free pass (Irene). But there should have already been contingency plans in effect. That doesn't seem to be the case. All of these phone calls should have already been made pre-storm to have them on stand-by in case it became this bad.

I feel for the people without power in towns that are mostly with power. Friends in the Riverside section of Greenwich are being completely ignored as the focus is mainly on the hardest hit towns.

No matter what, people will complain, even with the fact that we are working 24/7 with hundreds of crews from out of state to restore power. Google "CL&P outage map" and you will see the first result is an official list of towns with lost power and the percentage and number of customers without power. As you can see, Branford only has 3 customers without power at the time of this posting.

And to kidyankee, even if we had crews on standby, it will still take forever to repair the astronomical amount of damage done by this storm. Not to mention, the CL&P crews were on standby, but not the out of state crews. Does it really make sense to have them drive 16 hours up to CT just to be on standby? Of course not. Also, the entire day of Sunday, no repair work was done. We had to do the patrolling process, which is where we send people out to drive around the streets with a map to take note of where the problems exist. Then, we send out the wires down guards to sit in their cars watching the problem site until the repair crew arrives. So that's how the process works. 1. Patrol, 2. Guard, 3. Repair. Guarding can last for days at a certain problem sites.

Yea I'm not really mad at the power company at all. Then again, I worked for a utility in the past so I kind of "get it" from an inside perspective.

And I can tell you, they ain't guarding sh*t down the street from me, and I have a few glass wire insulators you are not getting back as souvenirs. lol (They are not good and ripped off the pole anyway. )

I was more talking about a contingency plan than have people in SC waiting with keys in hand. It seems like all of this was done last minute, as Sunday they were still calling around for help.

I appreciate CL-P and the work the crews are doing, but it does seems like there was a lack of planning. There was LOTS of damage in Westchester/Rockland/Springfield/North Jersey, but the majority of their customers are back online. Why?
