Looking to get an apartment around Hartford, am from more of a country setting, ie lots of land with houses and the like. Am looking for apartments, anyone have any to recommend? Just want it to be safe and we do have two cats and a small dog, but the girlfriends parents can keep the dog as this will be our starter apartment (just finished college.)

Any help here is appreciated. I know not all of Hartford is bad, but it certainly has bad spots and am just looking for somewhere safe and affordable. Any advice is appreciated!

Reading a lot about apartments around this area in apartmentratings.com and I have to say a lot of what I am reading is godawful frightening. Oh! And apartment price range is 700-950, we are hoping for around 8 as most do not provide utilities.

Your price range is a bit low for an apartment in one of the larger complexes. You might be able to find one isn a two family house somewhere like Vernon or Manchester but it will be modest. Try craigslist.com but be careful when looking there. If it sounds too good ot be true, it probably is. Jay

Since you mentioned vernon and country i would suggest ellington. Cheap apartments, safe living and its the closes you are going to get to "country" out here. Its next to vernon by the way, probably about a 20 minute commute to hartford. You can also look in vernon and manchester as jay said.

I do not know if Ellington is cheap but it does have the country setting the OP mentions and there are several apartment complexes there. Jay

i live in Vernon and pay 850 including heat and hot water at the Woodmere apts--the only thing is each condo or apt is owned by individual landlords. I can give you the name of my landlord if you are interested---they accept pets too. Its very safe and Manchester is only 8 min away, with Htfd being 15min away
