Where do you get stuff like this?

Protecting oneself from crime was important back in the Founders' time, too, you know.

And how do you like that single-shot flintlock pistol of yours?

Have you read the constitution? The whole country was founded on this principle. What do you think those Michigan Militia's are all about. I find it hilarious how some pro gun rights people don't even know their own stuff. They think the 2nd amendment is about crime! LMFAO! Forming Militia's to overthrow the federal powers and spread of power to states to limit federal authority. Read up on some history. The 2nd was all about not taking away people's INDIVIDUAL right to fight the government. What's the first thing Hitler did when he took over? He de-armed the population. Only the cops and governement had firearms.

My, what ignorance.

The government should fear the people....not the people fearing the government! That basically sums up constitutional gun rights. Oh and denying a convicted sex offender a firearm is unconstitutional. It say ALL citizens have a right to bear arms. It doesn't put a sub clause in there about being convicted of a crime.

I'm not saying the exact same weapon. I just mean a weapon with similiar characteristics like a revolver or a shotgun/hunting rifle. The right to bear arms doesn't mean people can stash away C-4 explosives or rocket launchers or a fully automatic machine gun.

Dad's mistake--a serious one. He left the gun out, and he hadn't educated you about how to handle it, very obviously.

The word "smart" has no place in that statement. He was an idiot to pick it up and aim it at you in the first place.

Really?!

Either your friend was a moron, or you made this story up.

No person with encephalographic activity, with enough brains to identify whether a gun was loaded, would pick up a gun sitting in someone's house, fail to look at whether it was loaded, and then point it at anyone. That action has multiple layers of stupidity, and a little luck. Nothing smart about any of that. You never point guns at people. Doing it without looking to see if it was loaded, while being in possession of the basic skills to determine whether or not it was loaded, is so dumb it's beyond words. So dumb as to be unconscionable.

Are you postulating that, because your dogs are useless for home protection, all dogs must therefore be useless for home protection? That would be highly inaccurate.

I'm expecting you will be disappointed. Have you noticed a higher number of self inflicted foot shootings in the other 47 states that already had carry permits?

They don't shoot back.

As you stated, do you sleep with your handgun? LMFAO Silly argument. There really is no benefit to a handgun over a shotgun for home defense. This sounds kind of like paranoia to me. You walk around your house with a holstered firearm 24/7? wtf? You an enforcer with a drug cartel?

You are being silly. My point about the animals was experience with the actual effects of gunshots, nothing more. The poster insinuated I didnt know what a shotgun wound would look like.
The ONLY benefit of a handgun is that you can carry it with you. Sleeping or any time you dont have it that advantage is gone. So as I said, when in bed a shotgun might be better. But I dont have a shotgun there because that would be unsafe, theres too many people around.

Why does a person need to be involved with crime to carry a gun? Its amusing that most people who dont carry come up with ridiculous comments like you just did. I dont even walk around my house 24/7, but if I'm up & dressed its a very good bet I'm armed. Its not a silly point however to acknowledge that a gun on your person is reasonably going to be easier to get to. I dont look at carrying it as anything special at all. YOU do, but thats you. Are police paranoid? They must be, after all who commits a crime or attacks them? They only bother with a criminal after the fact and they carry off duty, most of them all the time, the experts. So if its reasonable for them its very reasonable for you. Another thing is its not even remotely inconvenient anymore with modern guns. No more uncomfortable than a cell phone or a wallet. We arent talking about strapping on a six shooter in the old west.
If a person wants a shotgun in the corner for home defense thats fine, if they want a permit so they can go one step further thats even better.

You said you walk around your house with a gun constantly strapped to your hip in case of intuders. That to me seems paranoid. I know plenty of gun owners and I haven't known one to constantly have his gun on him while he does the dishes or takes a dump or gets intimate with significant other ect. lol
