We are planning to move to Connecticut this summer and need to find the best public school/district possible for my 9 year old, moderate to severe, autistic nephew.

Can anyone please help?

I'm sure someone can help you better than I can, but I recently heard from a friend that the Brookfield school system has a stand-out special needs program. They're not the only ones though.

While in and of itself an "average" school district, Stamford has an elementary school called Westover Magnet (you have to apply to it) that has a solid reputation for its autism programs.

Where will you be working? That would help narrow down your choices. And unless you go with a private or possibly magnet school, you will need to live in the school district you want your child to attend.

You definitely need to provide more information. Where will you be working? how much can you afford to spend and what do you expect to get for your money? There are many towns with good schools in this state so just making a recommendation is hard. Jay

Every town in CT is mandated by federal law to provide an appropriate education for a handicapped child. Therefore, you should be able to force any town to pay for appropriate private education for the child, if the town does not provide it in a public setting. If you need it, there is a lawyer who specializes in education law in CT - his name is Klebanoff.
