I am thinking of moving into CT from Westchester. I need a community that has options for working mothers- especially an after school program at the elementary level. We like Wilton,Ridgefield and Fairfield- can anyone tell me if I will find these communities hard to live in as a working mom?

Absolutely not. Each of these towns has programs. As Ridgefield and Wilton are smaller, it would be easier to identify the program that suits your child. Fairfield is a much larger area, and as such will have more programs and, it will take some research to find the right program, easily accessed from school and closer to home. Ask your Realtor to get you that kind of information.

The Ridgefield Boys & Girls Club is a great place for kids after school and during the summer. They are doing a complete renovation which will be finished in 2008. If the kids are under school age there are a few highly recommended day care centers in town. Plus there are working mom meetup groups. The commute is about 35-45 minutes depending on where in Westchester.

Good Luck!!

Fairfield also has some excellent programs....and a YMCA..which of course is open to all !.......also a Boys and Girls Club nearby....but the schools themselves have a very high degree of programs and sports teams.

Fairfield is a more progressive and open town...Lots of variety in ALL ways to be found in this town !

Ridgefield is much more reserved ...and very much less happening in and around town !

Wilton......Excellent Country setting..high marks if your into horses ( as is Fairfield and Ridgefield )...................Very low activity rating ! Almost a vegatative state...especially when compared to Fairfield !

If you need help with the kids..your pool of whatever it is you need..will be much greater in Fairfield than your other two choices...in which you'd might strongly need a live-in.

Depending on the age of your children and the kind of care/activities you are seeking there are a number of options in Ridgefield. There are after school programs that require you -- or a friend-- to do the transport and there are some programs that have vans which pick children up at the local schools. Some of the more childcare oriented spots are: All For Kids in Ridgefield Connecticut
Almost Home Childcare
