I am transferring to a company located in Greenwich. I am a single female, no kids and have NEVER been to Connecticut. I am looking for an area I can feel safe in and not cost me a fortune (does that exist in CT?) I will be renting for a year or two before considering buying a home. Thank you

Hi Sharilyn - Welcome to Connecticut. I think you will like it here. It is hard to recommend where to live without an idea of price you want to pay. Fairfield County is one of the most expensive parts of the country to move to. You might be better off looking in neighboring Stamford for a place. Stamford is a small city and there are many apartments there. Other options may be Norwalk or Bridgeport but these would require commuting a distance. If your job is downtown, it wouldn't be too much of a problem to take the train but if not and you need to use a car it can be difficult. Traffic into Stamford and Greenwich in the morning is a nightmare. Good luck, Jay

Default your relocation

Try Rye, NY or stamford. you can fine a decent one bedroom in greenwich or those towns for around 1200-1500 possibly cheaper. dont go that much father away or you will be enjoying a brutal commute if you cannot take the train

Southwestern Connecticut is basically an appendage of greater NYC

Home prices are high, commutes can be stressful and the pace of life rather aggressive.

Stamford may be your best bet- apartments will be higher then greater Chicago- but not shockingly so. A 1 bedroom high quality will cost around 1500 hundred dollars a month.

Home prices in Greenwich are stratospheric -look into Norwalk, and Stratford, where prices are more realistic.

Also try looking for an apartment in White Plains, NY. Easy commute to Greenwich, nice city.
