Actually San Francisco had some highways but has removed them. This is somewhat like what New Haven is doing with Route 34. Jay

It's difficult not to pass judgment on a project that restricts traffic flow within a metro area. If engineers had taken into account "pass through" traffic, I would be all for the project. But they did not so I disagree with some of the decisions made.

I also think that 34 flyover is a complete joke - not only is it ugly, I rarely see any vehicles using it. They should have taken the funds for that and put them toward a freeway toward 34 along Ella Grasso.

It is impossible to make intelligent decisions about the future without first turning a critical eye to the past.

I don't know, it was a pretty scary place in the 80's and early 90's. Most US cities hit a low around then. I think the city needs to learn from past mistakes and not make them again. That's how cities will succeed.

With the interchange project, why won't CT just build a 4-5 level stack . There are 3 4 level interchanges in CT: Mixmastsr, Abandoned one with 291 Beltway, and 84/91. Another one wont hurt.

I'll take some photos if I can remember. There's about 4-5 floors framed out.

I'll see if I can get pictures today too. I'm downtown on Monday nights and now it will be light out.
