Hello everyone,

My roomate and I are looking for a place to live in the Hartford area (W. Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield area preferable.) Probably going to avoid Hartford itself, though. Does anyone know of a place that is relatively tolerant to a little weekend party action and filled with primarily younger (20s or so) people in the area? We're not talking out of control frat house antics... but we still like to have a good time.

Are you looking for a condo? Townhouse? House?

If you're looking to rent a house, you should be fine since you'd have your own yard. Even if you have a condo or townhouse, you should still be fine if you aren't too loud.

You may want to check out towns with more down to earth, relaxed people - east of the river. Windsor, Manchester, E. Hartford etc - you could also check out Vernon. Generally, the more affluent the community, the less tolerant people tend to be.

Saltshaker - Most people do not mind an occasional party (especially if they are invited to come) but if you are planning to have parties every weekend and even a few week nights, no one will be pleased. Who wants to live near a bunch of noisy people drinking and coming and going at different hours of the day and night. I say this because I have a single friend who lives next to a person that does this. he does not know when he is going to be awakened in the middle of the night by a "party" next door. This person has been fined many times by the condominum association but still does this again and again. My friend is now considering moving to get away from this. It sounds like you and your roommate want to continue to live like you did in college. It may be time to reconsider that. Jay

JayCT, you did not answer the question posted at the beginning of the discussion. Instead of responding with advice about a person's lifestyle, maybe you should do some self reflection about why you never get invited to these "parties." If you are looking for a place to stay, West Hartford has a large amount of houses and sections of houses that you can rent. Further to the south around the middletown/cromwell area is also a good bet for people in their early 20's.

ChiefIllini84 - First of all, read my post. I was not talknig about me but a friend who has a problem. Secondly, I have nothing to reflect on. When I was younger I was invited to many parties and had an active social life, but I also respected other people and did not have loud parties on nights when most people work the next day. It is simply a matter of respect for your neighbors. I am sorry you disagree. The OP sound like they are planning to party a lot and I would hate to be living next to them. No one would like it. Finally I did answer their question. Jay

I don't know why you have ruled out Hartford itself. If you rent in any of the residential neighborhoods of West Hartford, your neighbors will be VERY hostile to any kind of a party scene that would satisfy 20-somethings. But there are plenty of neighborhoods in Hartford -- Clemens Place, West End, parts of the South End, and increasingly, downtown itself, that would be most hospitable.

I wouldn't rule out West Hartford at all...there are plenty of young professionals and lots of apt complexes. Also try out New Britain and I agree with the Cromwell/Middletown area. Affluent people like to party too...just don't go to an area that shouts out "families live here".

Manchester to the East and West Hartford to the West would be your best bet IMHO.
