Stylo,

Thank you so much for this post! I'm moving to New Haven in a couple of months and was very curious about the nightlife. I did see a couple of places on your original post, but is there any bars/lounges that you absolutely recommend where the crowd is more of young professionals in their 30s and 40s?

For the best professional crowd... Cask Republic, 116 Crown, Owl Shop (if you don't mind smoke), Barcelona, BAR (the front rooms), Prime 16, Heirloom. Rudy's is 20's-40's, a mix of hipster and professional. Also, some lower key restaurant bars like Zinc, Kitchen Zinc, Ibiza, Caseus are very classy and modern. Firehouse 12 is younger, but smart and hip and a mix of hipsters, artists, professionals. Oaxaca Kitchen has a nice bar area, but I have only been there for food. A new place called Gilt is trying to do an ultra lounge type atmosphere. Press might be to your liking too, but I have not tried it yet. I know they're trying to develop it into more of a lounge. Koffee? is a coffee shop that serves beer and wine at night that's full of glowing Apple logos at all times of the day. You've got a lot of choices.

Some nearby towns have a few good ones too, downtown Milford with Bistro Basque, Cafe Atlantique (quaint, classy French coffee shop with wine), Stonebridge on weekdays and before 10ish on weekends (the crowd gets younger and very Jersey Shore at that time), Cabo, Citrus (same hours as Stonebridge). Those are nice in that they have outdoor bars for the summer. Tengda and Plan B in Milford Marketplace. Bar Bouchee in Madison. Used to be Swill Wine Bar in Branford, but that will be a new oyster bar soon.

Speaking of... Cask Republic got rid of their high tables with stools in the middle between the booths and the bar. That was one of my favorite things and they were great when you had a crowd. Maybe couples didn't like to sit at them? Now they are just standard four-tops.

Yeah I did like those. I didn't notice they were gone last time though?

I would suggest Pourhouse, Black Bear or Russian Lady for general nightlife

Pourhouse = most bang for ur buck

Black Bear = always decent

Russian Lady = PRICEY

960 = some real dead nights if no big name dj is there

As far as hip hop clubs

Palace or Envy

18 and Over

Smash and On The Rocks.... Smash is hotter spot these days

I dunno, I was there on Friday. I may have just not noticed as we sat on the couches. In the past we've sat on the high tables, it was nice in a group.
