Single female early 30s no children. Salary would be $55k job located in Stamford. I'm asking because on Apartments.com and Rent.com I've seen nothing but "luxury" buildings and there is no way I can afford $1900 in rent. I would prefer to live in an apartment building but if they all cost that much then there is no way. I live in NJ so I am definitely familiar with high COL. I would say I can afford $1200 per month max.

Thanks

Look at Zillow for rentals; it's less shady than Craigslist and Apartments.com and rent.com will only have expensive communities and not private listings.

Stamford is one of the most expensive areas in the country but coming from NJ you shouldn't have sticker shock. You should be able to get a decent 1br apartment (not luxury) for 1200.

Studio or small 1BR is definitely doable at $1200.

Hi. $1200 will most likely be a studio or a small 1br in a privately owned condo or multi-family unit. Downtown maybe possible but the outlying neighborhoods of Springdale, Glenbrook and the Cove do offer rentals that are less expensive, in the $1200-$1350 price range for a 1br.

The luxury buildings are pricey since they are newer, and in a convenient downtown location, but they also offer a few amenities which you pay for in the rental price.

The advantage of the condo rentals is that many include heat & hot water in the rental price which differs from the luxury building units where you almost always pay for heat.

Hope this helps!
