Monroe actually isn't THAT far from 84, the Merritt and Route 8. It's pretty convenient to Danbury IMO. About 20-25 minutes.
Monroe really isn't a bit cheaper becuase it is further from shopping, it is cheaper really because it is further from major employment centers. Easton has easy access to major shopping in Fairfield and Trumbull as well as employment centers in Stamford, New York and Bridgeport. I-84 goes right through the middle of Newtown so most of it is not far from Danbury or Waterbury. In Monroe though you have to travel through either Newtown to get to I-84 or Trumbull to get the Merritt Parkway or I-95. I agree with you that Redding is a bit more removed but then again it is closer to Danbury, Stamford and New York. I will say though that the price difference is not much. in fact I am surprised if Monroe is not more expensive than Newtown. Jay

Monroe actually makes for a convenient backroad commute to Fairfield, Milford, Westport and Norwalk. You can avoid highways completely and it's not too long of a drive.

I don't think there's much of a price difference. Newtown probably has larger homes though.

we moved from the UK to bethel 11 years ago...right off 53 down by the animal shelter...
love the town, quaint, quiet, nice selection of resturaunts (especially if you like pizza and DEFINATLY give peachwave a check out if your going into town :P)
maintreet is very cute...though they have been having issues keeping actual store fronts In...resturaunts and such do great, but actual shopping...well its tough...
When i was in the schools, ehh, teachers were great, but the school was run down...however i graduated 02 lol since then theres been ALOT work put into the highschool and its looking great.

i moved to TN in october of this past year but its mostly a combination of cost of living in the state overall and winter...(im not a winter person LOL) id deifnatly suggest Bethel as a good choice for folks looking to be close to danbury but not "in" danbury for whatever reason (and in your case, if public school is the goal, you dont want your kids in danbury PUBLIC schools lol)
i think Newtownis beautiful, alot more "rural" than bethel...New Milford has some pros as does brookfeild, but i only lived in stamford and bethel.
