sgfludd - so you discovered Peapod? Yes, we have used them. they are associated with Stop & Shop which is the largest supermarket chain in the region. We do like them a lot. We found the meat, seafood and produce delivered was better than we could find in the store and that their prices were comparable to those in Stop & Shop. That said, we really do not use them anymore. To use them you need to plan ahead and my wife does not do that well. She likes to decide what to make for dinner the day before or the day of the meal. But that is just us. If you are good at planning ahead, the service is great. I know a lot of people in the Greenwich area use it because the supermarkets there are limited in size and can't carry as much as stores in other towns. I think you will like it. Jay

PS - we do tip the delivery person. Depending on the size of the order, $5 or $10 should do.

Yep - I'm a chronic planner - I had my list already this morning - and I remembered seeing the Peapod truck in town. So I stayed in my jammies - and let my fingers do the walking. Thanks for the info - I don't want to be known as the lady that doesn't tip well - that would mean broken eggs for sure! LOL

We have friends that don't tip the Peapod deliveryman and they said they do not get broken eggs (we asked). Of course we are in the Hartford area and you are in Greenwich. Can't say what the deliveryman is like there. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Jay

My wife an I use Peapod quite a lot. There have been a few problems. Most recently, they pushed our delivery back a day, claiming that there were problems with the vehicle. Often, even when they do manage to make it on the right day, they're later than they tell you they will be, and they will push delivery times back. Also, they frequently seem to be out of items, and they're not great about substituting.

Having said all that, it is possible to save money by buying their specials (especially compared to some of the other BIG grocerY outlets in this area), and the quality of the meat and produce is good. When things go smoothly, it's a very convenient way to shop.

I suggest tipping well when the delivery person does a good job- cheerfully brings the groceries where you want them, etc. If someone is less than helpful, or has an attitude, tip poorly or not at all.
