Thank you Willow Wind! Very informative. I'm curious about Rt. 14A. Why is there a 14A and a 14?

The Sterling area is very beautiful and rural, and has a somewhat depressed atmosphere in certain areas, but it's not bad by any means. Just not a lot going on. IMO, that area of the state is simply beautiful and quiet. It's not convenient though, as you will have to drive farther than usual to go grocery shopping or to work.

Route 14A means that it's an alternative to Route 14, kind of like a bypass. Route 14A bypasses Sterling center, basically. 14A is one of my favorite routes in the entire state for natural and historical beauty/charm. Some pretty amazing views there, too.

But Sterling isn't far from Norwich, which has some job opportunities, though not a lot.

For ha-ha's, there is a house on the market right now in Sterling for over $5 million. It's an amazing property. It has 344 acres of land, a golf course, a church, and it's an 8,000 sq ft ranch. Unbelievable!

Just looks like an ordinary pond -- nothing special about it lol.

And btw, there is an industrial park in Sterling. Check out Industrial Park Rd, off Main St. There are several corporations and businesses there. Probably still not enough job opportunities though, but you never know.

I live in the New Haven area, but my favorite area to drive in for scenery, quiet, quaint areas and just unspoiled vistas is far Eastern CT. When I go, usually spring and fall, there are always signs posted about church suppers and dinners at firehouses or other public halls. No big shopping centers, no huge traffic jams - it is like another world to me, living 1 mile from I-95. It is probably idealizing on my part, since you do have to travel a ways to shop, or if you needed medical care, or worst case scenario, to be hospitalized. I'm sure the pace of life is relaxing in those towns. I love Sterling - have taken lots of photos there over the years. There used to be a big old farmhouse with a barn and a pond with a flock of black swans on it. I had never seen black swans before. Not sure if it is still there, or if I could even find it again!
