Milford would probably be the most affordable, stay away from South Stratford, Bridgeport is a definite NO. There is train transportation to BPT. and also buses.
I grew up in Milford, a great place.

Milford and Stratford may be better options. Bridgeport has very select good areas, but they are there and you will pay $$. Stratford has some questionable areas but is mostly fine. Milford is pricier than Stratford but has no bad areas. Both towns you can take the train (Metro North) into Bridgeport.

Stratford or Milford. They both are very quick rides to B-port by train. Milford has a nice downtown.

Stratford and Milford is great

Stratford: Avoid Barnum ave area leading into bridgeport border ,and lordship blvd/woodend road area there are not bad parts but it less desirable part of town like it not as attractive as other part there higher indents of car break ins. That just small part of Stratford most of town is fine.

Bridgeport: Black Rock west of ellsworth street...Black Rock you have bars, restaurants, right on the border of town of fairfield for access to retail shopping, fairfield metro station take you right into downtown bridgeport train station just 4 min train ride or you can drive just 5-7 min drive.

Milford: Most of Milford Fine

Black Rock is a great waterfront area bordering Fairfield, with some good bars, restaurants, nightlife as well.
You can walk to the Fairfield Metro station, hop on northbound and one stop to Bridgeport station.
