Really hard to go wrong with Branford. It has just about something for everyone.

Do not get too thrilled about the beaches, if you can even call them that. They are the smallest public beaches I have ever seen. However, the town is beautiful. I highly recommend it.

That's because of the rocky coast. That being said, it's kind of nice not to have a massive beach in town. Keeps out of towners out.

Years ago (throughout the 1970's into early 80's) I belonged to Double Beach Club, located where Hospice is now. It was a great spot - small but nice beach, a sandbar that leads out to a little island, a floating swim deck that you could dive off of, a small pier, a very large pool with a 12 foot deep dive area, nice lawns, tennis courts, parking lot, showers, bathrooms, etc., as well as a restaurant and snack bar. When the owners decided to close the club and sell the property, they first offered it to the town but the town replied they already had a beach. I can't say for sure, but the price was in the $200,000 range. So the property was sold to Echlin, an automotive products manufacturer for its corporate headquarters and around the bend Turtle Bay Condos were built. Later on, Hospice moved into Echlin's hq. Wonder if the town ever regretted not grabbing that beautiful spot.
