Stamford is a city, and like most New England cities, it has a suburbs. There's no reason in the world why the OP can't live in the non-city neighborhoods of Stamford (such as Noroton), at a lower rent than in Greenwich. They'd be close enough to downtown and the train station that they could get there in 5-10 minutes by car. Also, if they live in Greenwich, they'll have to cross into New York State to find the nearest Walmart. If they live in Stamford, they have a choice of New York (White Plains) or Norwalk.

If they have any intention or desire to put away some savings, at their income, Greenwich isn't going to be an option. Sure they could live there. But it would come at a premium cost that they might want to not spend now, and instead, save for when they're older and might actually need to rely on it.

Consider Westchester county, Rockland county, and northern New Jersey. Where is your place of work? I would look at the nearest, most convenient public transportation to your workplace and then work your way out from there on the trains. Avoid Long Island - VERY congested traffic.

Not to split hairs, but Noroton is part of Darien, not Stamford.

Noroton is part of Darien, not Stamford. Maybe the Glenbrook or Springdale sections of Stamford would be good. Jay

No offense to anyone on here, but if you are just trying to not live in NYC why on earth go all the way out to CT unless you are buying and want lower taxes? Check out Larchmont...33 minutes to GCT and a really great town (not that I'm partial or anything )

And Pelham, 28 minutes away. Check out the Westchester board, in general, and post there. It's a good one.
