Hello again everyone. Sorry for cluttering the forum, I just want to be sure we're making the right decisions when it comes to a life changing move. My original post (//www.city-data.com/forum/conne...yc-please.html) along with a few others elsewhere has provided me with quite a bit of information.

Based on what I've learned, I believe Stamford may be the best place to live. I've found it to be safe, clean, organized, and friendly with an average amount of activities for the younger couples. In case you missed the first post, this describes us best (with a few minor changes from OP):

-We're newly married, low twenties.
-Our combined income (before taxes) is around $175,000.
-We do not have kids and don't plan to for a few years.
-We're quiet, keep to ourselves kind of people (aka classified 'boring')
-We put priority first on safety of where we live.
-We like to live near a nice downtown area
-Obviously need to be near a train that's a semi-quick ride into NYC.
-We enjoy local food and entertainment.
-Would prefer groceries and a Walmart close but not too close.

From what I've read, Stamford may be perfect. Also, the 40-50 minute train ride isn't something that bothers me as my current commute is longer and I have to be the one driving! So, just a few more questions:

-Looking at some nice condos/apartments to RENT in downtown or close to it, which do you think are the safest, cleanest, and have the most amenities? Expecting to pay between $1500-$2500/mth for 1 or 2 bedrooms.

-Which of these provides best access to the correct trains?

-Other than a high rent, and car tax, what other expenses should we expect?

Thanks so much!

I think Stamford is a good choice. It is convenient to Manhattan and yet has its own identity without being overpowering. I think Avalon has a couple of nice complexes downtown and there are a couple of nice new buildings in Harborpointe which may be to your liking. Check the links below:

I Hope this helps. Jay

Should be good. Good luck.

PS: Avalon tends to be a not-so-great value. They get away with higher rents by marketing extensively and being a go-to option in many metros.

Thats good your using the rails. Brush up on this thread and you'll kiss the train each time you use it.

Haha are you kidding me?! I'm stoked to have the opportunity to commute via rails. I'm currently stuck on Interstate 4 in Central Florida toward Orlando... WORST EVER.

Not driving + no traffic = WIN.

Josh, you probably just picked the best place for you if you are going through with it.

As for living, keep this in mind since you will be using the train. A walk or short bus ride to the station will save you mega headaches and $ for parking. Yes you may be more "downtown" but Stamford is pretty homogeneous so it's not a bad thing.

I've been too far removed to recommend apartments, sorry, but I can recommend locations and that's close to the station.

P.S. Spent 5 years in Orlando. It was fun, and I'm glad I did it but you can keep it.

I'm very familiar with I-4. It's nothing compared to 95 in southwestern CT.
