Hi

I was looking at condos in west Hartford and there is a 2 bedroom condo On 106 oak wood ave. I think there is a large complex there. The cost is only 79k.

Does anyone know anything about the complex? There is also an apt for rent in the same complex going for 780 per month. It was really cheap so I am wondering if there are any negatives.

Thanks!

I think it would be a good idea for you to go spend some time in the area on a warm summer Friday or Saturday evening. If it looks right to you at that point, okay. But this area of WH is very close to the border with Hartford. It would not be my first choice within West Hartford.

There has been some debate on this forum on whether this is a problem area or not. Some think it is not good but that could be related to their perspective from a more quiet suburban or rural area. I personally think the area is good but it is more urban in character so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this may not be the best location. Jay

Where you're looking is a complex called Twin Oaks, which overlooks JFK Park. If you have a chance, try to visit the complex. That way you will get a feel for the neighborhood and the grounds. A few people here have said they shy away from this street, saying they felt unsafe here. I never did, and I rented in this area a few years ago. That being said, it's best to explore and see for yourself.

Another reason I encourage you to see it firsthand is because the management company may be iffy. A few years ago there was a serious maintenance problem in one building that displaced a few residents. But again, this was about 3 or 4 years ago. Alot could have changed since then. I've seen a few units for sale on websites and it looks like alot of them have been completely redone and look nice. You may want to chat up one of the residents if you see them in the parking lot and get their thoughts on living there. It's definitely one of the more diverse areas. I read the real estate transactions for what sells in town, and it seems a large Russian community is moving in there now.

Thanks, I know the area and am not really that concerned.

I really was more concerned about the apartment complex itself and wanted to know if anyone lived there and could tell me what they thought of the complex.
