Go up Long Hill Road and get onto Route 22 in Bedford. You can follow Rt 22 North as it becomes very rural right past Brewster/Paterson. You can go straight up to Copake Falls Park on the border of Mass/CT: nice waterfall. You can also hang a right and go into Litchfield County and get on 7 north and go into Mass. It is a shame they closed Westpoint to tour on your own it was beautiful there. Another option is to go across to Rt 9 on the Hudson and go to Rhinebeck. Two homes to see on the Hudson is a Vanderbilt 'Cottage' and President FDR home.

Yes, check out Bishops Orchards at Bishop's Orchards - Home Page , exit 57, on North I-95, then a right, about 1/2 mile up on the left is where they are: Guilford. Apple picking is going on now as well as other fruits. Nice store too They also have a phone pick your own line, you can get hours and some specials. I love going there!!

Oh i forgot that South Street in New Canaan is scenic some jogging trails.

There's also Binney Park In Old Greenwich, and Bruce Park in Greenwich. Do you want directions?

Take a trip to Litchfield Green and walk some of the beautiful and historic streets around ther. Lunch at the Grille and maybe visit one of the wineries in the area. There are so many nice trips this time of year, you won't have time to do them all. Jay

1) Essex is an interesting town to visit. 2) Rte 169 is also a scenic drive but it might take longer than 3 hrs r/t 3)The Litchfield Hills and Kent are popular places to visit especially during foliage season.
You can read up on these places and make your plans accordingly.

Default Specific to litchfield county

How you would chose to get there is up to yourself, but I can add some nice must see roads up north. Rt. 6 directly off I-84 exit Southbury and head east to Woodbury. Rt. 47 north to Washington Depot, follow 47 exiting onto 202. Quick detour, turn left (south) to Rt. 45 and go west (this is New Preston) and take a lesiurely tour of the loop road around Lake Waramaug. You will end up right at your start point on 45 in New Preston. back on 45, turn left (north) and just as you pass Boulders Inn turn right on Tanner Hill Road. At the top, just take a peek backwards at a million dollar view of the lake. Awesome! Ok, your on a backass road now, continue to Rabbit Hill Rd, and turn left on it. Follow this down to the main road which is Rt. 341. Turn left and you will pass through arguably the smallest and most rural town in Ct, Warren. Continue on 341 west down the mountain to the town of Kent. *note, these are extremely scenic roads* You are at the Jct of 7 and 341. If you go straight, 341 takes you to Macedonia Brook State Park. Nice sidetrip, basically take 7 north (pass Kent falls SP) and stay on 7 north for a while. You'll visit Cornwall bridge, West Cornwall (stop at the scenic covered bridge) you'll also go by Housatonic Meadows SP. You will pass nearby LimeRock track, and the Jct of Rt. 63. Turn south on 63 and this will also take you back into some nicely forested areas and into Goshen. From Goshen continue to the town of Litchfield. (Jct of 202 again) If you sidetrip in Litchfield, just return to 63 south and continue through until Jct Rt 61 south. You will pass center of Morris Ct, and then center of Bethlehem Ct. 61 will then rejoin with Rt. 6, bear right and 6 just takes you right back through Woodbury and the jct of I-84. no dissapointments....

I would definitely do Rte 7 through Litchfield County. It's just gorgeous up there anyway and with the added color that might still be hanging on, it's really pretty. Curvy roads though beautiful countryside, past lovely homes with really neat little shops sprinkled in for added flavor. You can't beat it.
