This morning is even chillier. 40s entered the state at the higher hills of Litchfield and even Danbury and Oxford. It is amazing to see NYC and surroundings struggle to drop below 65 last night .. NYC has become the boiling pot of the country

True...the urban heat island is a big reason why the NYC areas stays so warm at night. However, don't discount the effect of the warm Atlantic, Long Island Sound, Delaware Bay...etc as well on temps in NYC and other coastal cities: Danbury fell to 49 F...but Groton only fell to 55 F and Bridgeport fell to only 57 F (my low was 57.8 F a few blocks from the beach).

SST are near 23/24 C/73 - 74 F off Long Island and the in Long Island Sound. I was diving yesterday off Groton Long Point and my ESA depth meter showed 74.9 F for a one foot SST!

While there's some merit to your point, what I've noticed is Central Park (and far more so LaGuardia....when CPK was 62 they were 67!) often on a night like this has the highest low temperatures between Maine and Virginia, so I don't think it's simply the ocean as places like Atlantic City or even Bridgeport and New Haven would show higher nighttime lows. The only places I usually see on nights like this with such high lows are Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA and Cape Hatteras, NC, so it's the equivalent of a "coastal" location way down there with the giant heat island effect (and it's definitely heat island because it is mostly the low temperatures that have gone up for CPK and LGA in recent decades).

Thats the other amazing thing. The waters can keep us cool during the day but keep us warm at night.
Another amazing thing is, I'm closer to NYC then you (I think) yet my temp dropped to 51 and I'm 10 minutes from the coast.

So it's funny to see how just being a couple miles away from the coast and NYC the temperature drops harder.

Weather in Connecticut is so interesting.

From New Haven on east to Cape Cod, it gets a tiny bit warmer at night than points west to (almost) NYC. I think it's because the Sound is wider and eventually becomes the ocean. For example, New London and Block Island actually average LESS annual snowfall than NYC and I think the Cape is about even with NYC (which is astonishing given than Boston is about 1.5 times NYC in annual snowfall)

That is amazing! Is that comparing apples to apples meaning snow total records since 1950 at least?

I guess One can make an arguement against urban heating if thats true.

No it has more to do with precipitation patterns and how storms track. Some snowstorms that track east of NYC (which usually means cold air pulled down and snow) track west of say New London, Block Island, the Cape, etc. (meaning rain for them), that's what bring snow totals for those areas down.

I don't know if it's apples and apples, it was an "avg. annual snowfall" map for the region that OKX used to have on their site as part of a special "Winter Weather" page that I can't seem to find anymore.....oh wait, here it is:

4 Things to say:

1. Isaac Remnants might not even be felt here now as it might dissipate over Ohio Valley. Next real rain threat aside from the chance of spotty showers is Tuesday evening with a front.

2. When GFS continues to show bombs in the NorthEast (no matter if they happen or not afterwards), to me that means eventually one will happen. I believe its recognizing a pattern that would allow it to happen. So if everything comes together, its possible we get a big one soon.

3. If Leslie is this strong and comes close to N. America whether its Canada or U.S, I believe it will change the way the Northern jet acts. You can see below the 0C degree line how far south it comes which GFS also continues to show. Next couple frames shows snow near Lake Ontario.

4. Latest GFS6z hammers Maine and brings Leslie right into New England. Flooding, Winds, ect. This is not the long range anymore, this is mid range so we'll have to keep an eye on it.

6-14 day range seems to suggest rain and below normal temps in mid-September:

By the way, I bet today was the last 90-degree day of the season (there's a very outside shot tomorrow, but I think that's it).
