Saturday morning technical discussion:

Upper Level low over Canada. Picture a storm spinning counterclockwise but instead of the surface its at 15,000 feet up. (hence the "upper level" low, ULL)

The base of this trough is around the Northeast. At the base you get these impulses or shortwaves. The atmosphere is trigging showers around the base (as it usually does) so thats why we have rain this morning.

Also notice the temps, some 30s and 40s over midwest. If you draw a line from West to East but follow inside the orange lines (500mb heights) thats how the winds are at the higher level.

For example, northern Minnesota has air flowing from northern Canada. See it? CT has air flowing from northern PA which if you follow back is from Canada as well. That should keep temps in check until the flow is purely from the NW, then we'll feel the cooler air.

Rain tomorrow ahead of the cold front. Should be an awesome weekend.

But I've been watching the 9th timeframe. I think that airmass will be even colder.
Not an awesome weekend I guess. (maybe tomorrow only)

Monday-Tuesday morning still look cool

The 9th has changed westward, the colder air is going to be over Great lakes region according to latest model changes. So we should just be seasonable then. until it changes again. lol

Last time Bridgeport(BDR) broke a record low in August was 1987 on the 25th at 50°.
Lots of 1964s in the book for record lows in August.

Last time Windsor Locks (BDL) broke a record low in August was 2007 on the 11th at 49°
Lots of 1957s in the book for record lows in August

The last time Boston broke a record low temp the first week of August was in 1972 on the 5th at 54F. We could come very close Monday AM

-------------

And the last time BDR broke a record low for the first week of August was August 7, 1964 at 55°

... I've been putting my A/C on, afternoon and night. The only time its not on is the morning. So to answer your question.. there's no way in hell I am adding heat to my life at this point in time. LOL!!!! The air is not THAT cold! and it takes a while for the house to cool down.

Stove is usually lit in October for first time when air temp outside is in the 40s or 50s for more than 6hrs.

Looks like I dipped to 59 this morning for couple hours. Bridgeport low is 63. BDL is 58 so far.

Current OBS: The lowest temp so far aside from Norfolk at 52° is tied with Danbury, Meriden, and Oxford at 55°.

I see some 30s and lots of 40s in the upper midwest. Thats a sign that the air is cold to the NW of us and tonight will get colder than we were. Especially with clear skies! 40s will show up for sure in the higher elevations

I'll wait another month or so for that. Right now at night I just close the windows and pile on the blankets. I'm wearing a sweatshirt at the moment. The day tone temps have been perfect, though. Too cold to swim but otherwise very comfortable.

You mean with the a/c on right? I just can't imagine not having the a/c on lately.

I was just pulling some weeds (finally more than 10 minutes straight) but had to stop since the sun started shining on me. Got too warm! Move around and you'll realize how warm it is. I'm very active, I guess thats the issue.

I just checked the temp and bingo... thats why!! Its 72 already(in shade).
