Taunton for Friday night. Curious if we beat todays lows.

HIGH TEMPS WILL MAINLY BE IN THE 50S TO NEAR 60 OVER THIS PERIOD. THE CHILLIEST NIGHT OF THE WEEK APPEARS TO BE FRI NIGHT/SAT AM...WHEN LOW TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL DOWN INTO THE 30S ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION. WE MAY EVEN SEE SOME UPPER 20S ACROSS THE NORMALLY COOLER OUTLYING LOCATIONS OF SOUTHWEST NH/WESTERN MA. FROST HEADLINES WILL LIKELY BE NEEDED FOR PORTIONS OF THE REGION...AND PERHAPS EVEN FREEZE HEADLINES ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHWEST NH/WESTERN MA

I checked to see when NWS Bridgeport had their first frost last year - it was on the last day of the month - October 31st when it fell to 31 F.

It's interesting that for coastal areas it seems SST often help keep frost away, or at least push the first frost date back even more. I just checked local SST, they are STILL NEAR 70 F off the Tri-State Atlantic...and they were cooler last year by this time. So the question is will coastal areas see frost at all in October or will they have to wait till November?

The new map is interesting...shows 68 - 70 (19 - 21 C) SST off the Tri-State.....getting warmer into the 71 - 75 F (23 - 25 C) off the Mid Atlantic ....then over 80's (26.5 C) toward points southward.

Warm up coming... I repeat... Warm up coming! lol

First..
  • Rain tomorrow.
  • Cold Thursday night & Friday night (30s)
  • Big storm heading to great lakes will start the surge of warmth(havent checked temps yet, maybe 70s again)
  • More Rains next Wednesday-Thursday
I beat last year actually using the wood stove for heat already. (not burning hard though, just taking the chill out of the house.

Default Possible 1st Freeze October 13th

Growing confidence that we'll get our first frost at least and most likely a freeze for northern Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland & Windham Friday night.

The Coast might get spared that frost as usual.

Sometimes I wonder if models remember anniversaries.

Notice how far down the 32 degree line is (blue line) and whats off the coast for the 24th. Its weak, but a low pressure system nonetheless.. Anything north of that blue line is pretty much snow.

2 things to keep in mind... This is extremely long range AND its the first I've seen this so far.

Didn't we get a huge snowstorm on the 29th?

Yeah, but if I remember correctly the coastal areas like Bridgeport got rain and not snow. And I know that at my house the temp never went below freezing and we still got a ton of snow.

I was in Milford when the snow started around 1 PM that day and it snowed pretty heavily. Even in Branford we got inches of accumulating snow.

I don't think I went below freezing either, but still received 15-18" of snow. A storm that will not quickly be forgotten.

Actually, it was snowing heavy on the coast. BDR(technically Stratford) got 4" of accumulated snow. Norwalk 6", and more as you went inland. It was Long Island that had rain. CT coast was snowing but didnt accumulate as fast obviously and melted quicker. The snow to liquid ratio was insane at 5 to 1. That means the flakes were practically liquid. HEAVY!
