I'm a young professional in my early 30s (single, no kids) looking for a single family house that has a close commute to downtown Hartford. Ideally, I'd like a place with enough land to have a fenced in backyard for my outdoor cat. And I'd appreciate easy access to shopping basics: supermarket, package store, etc., as well as a few decent restaurants.

Any suggestions on cities/towns/neighborhoods?

Thanks much!

West Hartford is your best option - near the center if you have more to spend, Elmwood if you are on a more limited budget.

How do you keep a cat in a fenced yard? Wouldn't they just climb over the fence? And yes, you want West Hartford. There's some nightlife in the center for single people.

There are many nice towns around Hartford. We would need to know your budget and what you expect for that amount. In addition to West Hartford, I would also consider Wethersfield, Newington and Glastonbury. Jay

how do you keep a cat in a fenced yard? LOLOL that's mint. and yeah, west hartford all the way. there's whatever night life exists there, then you have the options of hartford right down the road, I keep forgetting to mention northhampton/amherst is really close also, that area is great, it's like 30/40 minutes out. it's a good base of operations. heck, you have new york a few hours away for day trips and or an over night.
