Like someone above me said, blind dart toss without any other information. There are great places all over the state, I can't single one out blindly.

With out a doubt you should check Fairfield! Young, family centered community near the beach! Excellent schools, not pretentious, more diverse then surrounding areas, close to NYC. Need I say more!

Job: Doctor
Budget: $1,500 - $2,000 a month
Needs: Basic Shopping within 15 minutes.

P.S. I'm willing to commute within an hour from home each way. Commute is not a problem for me. For now I'm looking at just a small apartment until I get settled for a year or two then looking into some smaller homes.

Choose Old Saybrook if you like water-oriented activities, Simsbury and Avon if you want to be closer to skiing. Both are very nice areas, and you would be fine with a family in either location.

We'd still need to know where you would be working. Keep in mind that CT is the size of a postage stamp. To work at any hospital in the state you would never need to drive an hour to get there unless you wanted to ( for example living in Old Saybrook and driving to Hartford which is about 55 minutes). .

More likely, if you worked in Hartford or New Haven, there a dozen towns around each of those cities that would be perfectly lovely, safe places to live with excellent schools. Your commute could be anywhere from 10-30 minutes or so, depending on whether you wanted a more urban or more suburban locale.

If you wanted to live in the Old Saybrook area to be near the water, you could look at hospitals in New London, Middletown or New Haven. All would be a half hour drive or less to a hospital. There are also many towns in the New Haven area that area on the water that could also be good choices.

Shopping is never a problem. For the most part, you're never more than a few to several minutes from basic shopping. Big box stores and malls may be further away but for everyday stuff, it's not far to drive.

Your rental budget will get a you a nice two bedroom condo or apartment in most areas where there are hospitals, possibly a small house too in some areas.

The only problem you might have is if you worked in lower Fairfield county which is one of the most expensive places in the country to live. Then your rental budget will get you far less than other places in the state.

I wouldn't worry about schools. CT has one of the best school systems overall in the country. You'll have no problem using public schools anywhere you land.

Good luck

New Haven probably has the most medical opportunities. Maybe live in a suburb with a lot of rentals for the time being like Milford, Wallingford, Branford. Good places for a family and extremely convenient.

Either the Hartford metro or New Haven metro would be good options for you. The best solution IMHO is to live between them so you'll have access to both markets. That would give you a 20-30 minute commute if you were to do that.

Cheshire, Wallingford, Middlefield, Rocky Hill, Berlin are all good options. If you just need an apartment for now, take a look at the Westlake area of Middletown. It's literally a 20 and 30 minute commute to either market, is a nice area with walking trails etc, supermarket, lowes, dry cleaner etc all there and super easy highway access. It's the area just off exit 21 on I-91 and RT 372. West Lake drive is the most populated area for that.

If you are okay with just sticking to the Hartford market, the Farmington River Valley as you mentioned in your first post is one of the most desirable in the area. You can't go wrong with any of those towns...just pick which suits your personal tastes the best.

Good luck!

I think I'm going to start looking in the Milford area. I was wondering, are there any good events for Christmas and Halloween in Milford, Woodmont, West Haven, New Haven, or Bridgeport? Those are the closest areas and I'm wondering if they have them. Thank you.
