You can't really trust those reviews. Why not talk to a real estate agent? I haven't heard anything bad about Spinnaker apartments in Milford from people that actually live there, despite a couple bad reviews online. YMMV.

Other than friends of mine complaining about "paper-thin walls" at Spinnaker, I haven't heard much bad about the units.

I've heard that, but apparently the new Prospect Falls building doesn't have that issue.

Unfortunately that's not true. From their website:

"Only one pet is permitted per unit. Only owners may have pets on the property. Renters, tenants, and lessees may not keep any pets on the property."

I was looking into the avalon properties. We have them here on Long Island I find them very attractive! We definitely need an apartment with a washer and dryer inside the unit as my wife is handicapped.

Avalon are way overpriced and the one in Milford is in a crappy location next to I-95.

There are many apartments that are Avalon-like (for example: http://www.spinnakerapartments.com/p...rospect-falls/) that are in better locations and cheaper.

Check out Wareck Real Estate's rentals in New Haven.. They have quite a few rental options in your price range.

Avoid a lot of driving, be near parks and entertainment.
Check out a city map and you will enjoy the streets off of Whitney avenue.
Cold Spring St, Willow Streeet that whole grid of streets near museums, parks, bus.. nice.
Whalley Ave / Edgewood Ave.. not desirable.

Ah okay. They must've changed the rules since I lived there. It was always a big issue; many of the tenants didn't care about picking up after their dogs, or letting them out to roam, and the owners couldn't just 'move' if they didn't like it. Never could get that rule passed. Sorry about that OP; TGW is off limits. However, the Birches are right across the street, they don't have a tenant clause excluding pets (as of 2008 - their website isn't updated). Their management is Empire Property Management.

It's more family oriented, a bit more crowded, they have a pool, and some of the buildings aren't in the best shape. It's not exactly dingy, but it's not pristine-appearing either. Rents tend to be much lower there than in TGW.

Yeah - I wasn't sure where it was so I looked it up. Seems like a decent place. At first, I thought you were talking about The Birches. I was going to vehemently disagree with you if that were the case.
