It's my understanding (just found this out) that I need to hire a private garbage company? I'll probably go with whomever is currently servicing the house I'm moving into, but wanted to get more information on this.

Also, how much does it typically cost?

Thanks!

There are a few companies that service the area, such as Colonial and RWS. It's typically around $30 a month, with once weekly pickups.

every place I called was 24 bucks a month. I settled on RWS and have had zero issues since. They also picked up tons of extra garbage, cardboard once we were moved in officially.

$24 is dirt cheap. I pay twice that in lower FFC.

RWS must charge different rates per town, then. And for me they charge an extra $3 a pickup if there is any garbage outside their garbage can. Have you gotten a bill since they picked up your extra garbage? You might find some extra fees in your next bi-monthly bill.

A bit more. Once a week and includes recycling. I'm not generally dinged for bulk items either. No charge for taking away a rotting 200lb Adirondack chair/bench the old owners left. I believe the dominant vendor in New Canaan is up to ~$80/month.

That's incredible, but I suppose it reflects the cost of living. Are these companies based in town?

My provider is Wilton based. New England Carting is also popular and I believe in town. Fairfield (town) is $40 and up.... I wonder if gas prices and all the fees towns are adding at the transfer station and or dump are raising prices.
