Bethel is actually generally a tad less expensive than New Fairfield. I personally feel it's the best all-around town in the area, as long as you're not looking for isolation. It also provides the best access to Norwalk (via Route 53).

Up to 300,000 is the most active segment of the market. If you want newer, you are most likely looking only condo townhouse styles in Danbury. Might be able to Smaller updated 3 bedroom homes. Taxes are highest in bethel.

Thank you style and jdhall. We have spent time looking at houses last 2 weeks. I have realized that 300K will not get us a newer house. I am finding it tough to find an updated older house as well.

We haven't looked at Bethel yet but probably that will be the next town to include in our search. Bethel somehow seems to be away from highways. I may be totally off here.

Jdhall - since you are a realtor you can help answer a question I have. My realtor is pushing me away from any short sale or foreclosure saying that it will take forever. Also, I asked him once if he could send me a list of foreclosed properties (not Keenan buying one but wanted to see what was out there) and he pointed me to the paid sites online. Is that normal fr realtors? The guy has been good so far though.

Thanks again,

Saurabh.

Bank owned properties are pretty easy to deal with. There are only a few on the market, and they tend to need some work and they are sold 'as is'. With the new Mls system, it is easy to search for the active bank owned properties.
Short sale properties can be a good bargain on you are willing to wait. Banks that are serving the mortgage and their investors can sometimes be a pain to work with.
There are to be plenty of listings that I would consider good homes on the market on Danbury matching your needs.

It sounds like you've found one of the rare professionals that doesn't wish to deal with the generally smarmy characters that take "short sale" listings.
