Thank you, peachto4! That sounds great. Was there a particular reason why your family chose Fairfield over Westport, Trumbull, other towns in the county, etc? Do you see a lot of young (20s/30s) families in that area or is it mainly a more established community with older kids?

We were looking, just like you, for a young, unpretentious, friendly town. Fairfield fit the bill completely!!

Besides, it afforded more for our money to say Westport (which happens to be where I grew up). Fairfield has an awesome school system too...and awesome beaches. It's really a wonderful community.

Also, I've heard that Fairfield is not as desirable as Westport (and Greenwich) since it borders Bridgeport...??
Fairfield is not as desirable and expensive because it is further from New York, not because it is located next to Bridgeport. The nicest parts of Bridgeport, Black Rock, Brooklawn and the North End, border Fairfield. It is a great town with excellent schools and a large Jewish population. The most walkable area is the Center which is the towns central business district. Tons of shops and restaurants to choose from. Stratfield and Fairfield Woods on the eastern side of town is more affordable and the new train station at Fairfield Metro Center makes it more convenient. Southport is another great area to consider but you will not get a lot of home for your money there. Jay

If you're still interested in Greenwich, check out the Havemeyer Park area. It's right on the Stamford border so it would make a great commute for your husband, and it's a nice, young family "starter home" type area. You'd get all the Greenwich ammenities and good schools (you'd be zoned for the North Mianus elementary and the very desirable Eastern Middle School), and more house for your money than other areas of town. (Note however your house still will be small - even houses over $1mm in Greenwich would be deemed "small" by most people's standards!) The only downside is that you're not immediately within walking range of much commerce. But you could hit the Riverside Commons shopping center (which has a Starbucks) from that area. And the village of Old Greenwich is a quick car ride away.

Being next to those Rippowam Apartments in Stamford could be considered a "downside" by some people though.
