I am moving to a home in eastern Newtown, almost on the Monroe line. Just wondering how bad traffic is heading 25 south, to 15 north, to 95 north in the mornings to New haven and visa versa in the evenings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You know, one of the travel problems with CT is that sometimes things just don't connect well. Newtown to New Haven is one of those things with no good connection. It's not that far in miles but......

You've got two just choices- the route you noted or CT RT 34 all the way from Newtown right into New Haven. Neither trip will be pleasant. Traffic IMO is the pits either way.

If you can manage it ahead of time, I would do a rush hour dry run using each route on a weekday morning
and then pick which ever seemed better. I'd allow close to an hour either route.

You might also do a search in the box in the search feature at the top of the forum. This has been discussed before. You'll get lots of opinions.

Better off doing 34. Are you buying? If not, might want to reconsider your location.

Depending on where the home, you can take 34 or 25. If it's along the southern half of the border, you might be better off taking 25. If it's nearer to Sandy Hook on the northern edge by Lake Zoar, you'll want to take 34. It's really not a bad drive - the major issue is the lights through Derby/Orange and if you get stuck behind a slow driver from Oxford to Newtown (since at that point it's only a 2 lane road).

Drive both and see what would be best. I'd advise you to avoid 95 if you can.

I agree with Kidyankee. Neither route is particularly bad except getting into New Haven on I-95 can be a problem. Depending where you live in Newtown and where you work in New Haven, it could take an hour. It is unclear from the post if you are looking to move to Newtown or if you already live there. While a very nice town, I think there are other towns closer to New Haven that are nice too. Jay

Thanks. I actually already live in newtown. Right off of 25 almost in Monroe. My office is on church st. Being an auditor, I won't always be going into new haven, but have been told most of my audits will be west of the bridge, which certainly works to my advantage. Based on where I live, I would think 25 would be my best option, no?

Yeah - it would.

On days when 95 is bad, you can take 34. Another option is Route 110 through Monroe and Shelton to 34.

Overall though, there could definitely be worse commutes in my opinion, I figure it will take me normally between 35 and 45 minutes

There are definitely worse commutes.

The crappy part about having to get on 95 (only during evening rush hour) is getting on the connector to 95 S. It can back way up.

I would get on at Ella Grasso/Long Wharf to avoid as much traffic as possible.

It depends on where in Newtown you are. It's a big town.
