My girlfriend and I are relocating to the Milford/New Haven area. Took a lot of time to figure out the town, but feel pretty comfortable picking Milford. She has a job in New Haven, and I work about 3 days a week in NYC.

We can't seem to find a lot of options for us. We're aiming to stay under 1700/month and have a small(20ish lbs) dog. So spinnaker properties are out. Sadly, they seem exactly like what we'd like to have. I've set up an appointment with Avalon for this coming Sat. Is Avalon really that bad? What other options are out there? I've worked on looking at private house, but I don't really like the idea of a two family.

I'm also contemplating actually checking out New Haven, but I don't wanna live in an area that is "too city-like" if possible. How is Strouse Adler?

No "bad" areas in Milford. Devon is less desireable. Nicest areas include downtown and that vicinity, Gulf Street area, Morningside/Woodmont, north Milford.

In New Haven, avoid The Hill, Fair Haven, Dixwell, Newhallville.

I second Craigslist for apt searches. I put all my vacancies on craigslist when they come available. I would have a great 2br for you in another week right in the village of devon but I don't do pets. Good luck...
