I am moving from Finland to Connecticut with my family (2+2) to work as a visiting scholar at the University of Connecticut Drama department. We are looking for a 2 bedroom FULLY FURNISHED house/apartment/condo to rent for a time period of 01.01.2013- 31.07.2012. This can be a sabbatical house, or if someone is moving elsewhere for shorter period. Maximum rent is about $1000 per month.

Location should be near UCONN campus in Storrs, so anything near that is fine, like Mansfield or Willimantic. Neighborhood should be nice as we have two little children. We have a nanny at home, so we don't have to worry about childcare or schools.
If you know someone who is moving or are moving away yourself, I'd be glad if you could contact!

Thanks!

Maarit

Doesn't UConn offer assistance in finding suitable housing for visiting falculty? You might try contacting a local real estate agent. Also check real estate websites like realtor.com. Goodluck and welcome to CT. Jay

Thank's for the reply adamz and JayCT!
I have registered to off campus housing, most of the houses are for 1 year lease and not furnished. I will keep on looking. I will try on real estates too, looks like they have more options than uconn off campus housing.
I am very exited about this move! Everything else is organized now exept where to live...

A 1 year lease is a normal term. It just means that you can ask to extend it for one additional year, and most landlords will agree.

You can also easily buy cheap furniture around campus. You just sell it when you leave.

Furnished houses/ apartments usually only come up around here when a faculty member goes on sabbatical. Ask the department that is hosting you to send an email out to the faculty listserv asking if any houses are available.

Good idea to ask the department to send an email to faculty list!
Lucily there is still time for house hunting
