We're looking to buy a home in Redding that needs, among many other things, a new septic tank and may possibly have an in-ground oil tank. Apparently, the same person who's going to replace the septic tank already removed the oil tank several years ago, but has no paperwork to back it up. Is it unusual that one person or one company would do both? Don't they have to be licensed? Apparently, Redding Health Dept has worked with the guy before, but I wasn't able to find his license on file with the State of CT. Should I be concerned or is this not a big deal? I should just trust the Redding Health Dept knows what they're doing and wouldn't allow an unlicensed person to replace a septic and remove an oil tank...right?
It is entirely possible that one firm can do both. I know of a company in Newtown that is licensed to do both. Some places wear many caps and have multiple licenses.
Since they have to take out permits, you should rely on the town to insure that who ever does the work has taken out the appropriate permits and is licensed. If you can find a website for the company doing the work, you may be able to see license numbers on the website, which you can then check. Or simply check the Dept. of Consumer Affairs website. But be forewarned you may have to input the name of the firm in several ways to find the license. i.e., it may be held , not under the name of the company, but under the name of the principal owner.
Thanks willow wind. He works for himself and we already did a search on the State of CT site for his license, but nothing turned up. He's kind of mysterious. He has no internet presence at all and we've been waiting 2 weeks for his proposal (which the Listing Agent keeps promising she'll send us) and he has no record of the oil tank removal. It's just very odd. But, hopefully there's a good reason. Just wasn't sure if one person could be licensed to do both.
Yes, a company can do both jobs. They should be properly licensed and insured though. Ask the company for its license number and a copy of their insurance. You can also look up licenses here... https://www.elicense.ct.gov/Lookup/LicenseLookup.aspx
