I miss the Pizza Hut on Connecticut Ave.. I think the only one one is in Westchester?

Having said that What about Jimmies in New haven? are the reviews on yelp really that bad?

You mean West Haven? I have heard that it used to be a great place but has gone downhill. Have never personally eaten there. There are far more well regarded places to eat in the area.

I'm actually trying to find a happy hour place in New Haven for this evening...prefer downtown. Any suggestions on somewhere with great drinks?

116 Crown has the best cocktails (on the level with elite NYC cocktail bars) and a super hip atmosphere, but it is not cheap and I'm not sure they have happy hour specials.

c.o. Jones on Upper State Street has some good happy hour specials. Free taco buffet (at least last time I went), 1/2 price margaritas, cheap beers, etc. It is small and fills quick though, so you may want to call ahead to put your name in.

Prime 16 has good happy hour specials too.

This should help, not sure how accurate it is though: New Haven Happy Hour Listings and Bar Specials for Friday

Nice, thanks. I don't want somewhere too trashy, or somewhere too fancy. We have friends visiting for the weekend from Portland, OR and were thinking perhaps Geronimos for some appetizers/drinks. I like Prime but it gets way too loud and packed in the small area, so we have to yell to talk. We want a quieter place where we can catch up.

Heirloom is a really nice, relaxed space with big windows that doesn't get too crowded/noisy. It's upscale, but not stuffy. Gorgeous space and the appetizers are good. Doesn't get too loud at all. Great seating for conversation.

116 Crown doesn't get too crowded at happy hour times and their food is definitely a step above Geronimo's. It's definitely hip and trendy. Not stuffy, just a really cool space. After 9 or 10 the music does get louder, but not club levels or anything and is still pretty relaxed. Also has great conversational seating options.

Prime is definitely too loud for what you want, I agree. Geronimo's can get rowdy inside too though, and with the rain today the patio might not be the best option.

If you don't mind getting food elsewhere, Firehouse 12 is one of the more relaxed bars in the city. It's a bit hipster, but I'm sure nothing more hipster than anything in Portland. It's architecturally really cool, and they have jazz shows in the upstairs space every Friday (the bar is in the basement - but don't think dingy, it's a great space). It's a few steps from 116 Crown.

Zinc is also another good option, but might be tettering on that too-fancy feel. Food is great though. Duck nachos are a popular app.
