Went to Home Depot in New Hartford yesterday to look for a cover for my outdoor AC unit and was greeted by a uniformed security guard. Saw another one patrolling the aisles.

It made me feel uncomfortable so I went to Lowes in Torrington. I don't think I'll be buying at Home Depot in the future if the security guards become permanent.

Has any one else noticed this at other stores?

Why would it make you feel uneasy? They're probably trying to deter shoplifters.

If they have a theft problem it makes sense. They are just trying to protect their property. Many retail stores have security walking around but most have them dressed like customers so you never see them.

Hard to explain. I guess it makes me feel a little like they're suspecting me and everyone else. I know that plainclothes 'shoppers' go around the store looking for shoplifters. I'm ok with that. But having uniformed security guards is another issue altogether.

Forget security guards, I'm just amazed there's a Home Depot in New Hartford! Last time I was there years ago there was almost literally nothing there.

It is right on the Torrington town line and is just an extension of the retail strip that has grown on the east side of Torrington over the past 20 years. Strangely the road gets rural really fast right past it. Jay

It has been there a lot longer than three years - at least 10.

Ahh, perhaps I thought that was just part of Torrington. I think I recall that Home Depot now.

I didn't say anything about 3 years.. it probably was more like 7-8. But yeah I do think I've been to the store and didn't realize it was New Hartford.

Yeah I may be dyslexic - I read "there" as "three" in your first post.
