We've been on the waitlist for a parking spot at Stratford for 5.5 years. There's about a 6 year wait. Today we found out they've mysteriously lost us from their list. I am beyond livid. I'm sure there's nothing we can do.

Do you remember who you spoke with when you added your name to the list?

Ouch!

I would bring it up with the town's leadership. Write/call everyone you can. Make a stink!

Not after so much time I just remember doing it before we even closed on the house - did it as soon as the initial paperwork was signed!

I've written to our town councilman suggesting that the system be changed so that people receive some sort of formal confirmation and voicing my support for adequate parking for Stratford residents, but I think we're just SOL.

Saturday we finally bought a second car so that my husband could drive to the train station and park there to save some commute time.

Not sure where you live, but I'm in Trumbull and going to Stratford was only about 5 minutes longer then Bridgeport. About 6 years ago I went down to that arena garage asking about a permit, and they said it would be about a month, so I didn't really worry about it.....I got a call the next morning saying I got a spot. I'd try there if Bridgeport isn't much further.

This is a solid suggestion.

I'm so sorry to hear that the Town of Stratford screwed up. It makes me nervous about my own dealings with them.

I agree with the suggestion about trying the Bridgeport garages, though I know inner-city traffic and volume will add to the commute.

Are there any local lots or companies in Stratford that will allow you to pay for a parking spot?

Bridgeport really doesn't help us. My husband has a 1.5 hour commute each way, and the goal was to shorten it. He walks 20 min to the train station currently vs a 5 minute drive. We just wanted to shave off that 30 minutes per day. Driving to the Bridgeport train station is 15 minutes, so it really doesn't make a ton of sense.

I would absolutely agree with stylo's suggestion of making a stink about this. That is SO unfair. Did you ever sign any paperwork or received anything in writing from Stratford about the parking spot? I know you mentioned that there is no "Confirmation" system in place, but surely there's something on record saying that you asked for the spot 6 years ago?

By the way, I wonder if your story would be a good one for media outlets like the Stratford Star or the Connecticut Post. Commuting and travel times are both big issues in Fairfield County, so I'm sure they would garner attention.
