Apples and oranges. The two homes next door to the antique colonial have no bearing on its value from an assessor's point of view. Antique homes are a niche market. Someone looking to buy a new home is not going to buy an antique colonial.

Try to find several other antique homes of similar size and condition in the town, in similar areas and see what they might be worth. That will give you an idea of what that particular house might have as value.

The home I'm looking at is an antique, two larger brand new homes were built next to it in 2011 and were assessed at almost $250k less than the home I'm interested in.

The town is currently going through their re-assessment period, and will release new numbers before Christmas (so they say).
This house has been on the market for almost two years for this very reason (taxes). I can't believe a bank and town would rather let a property rot on it's own rather than address/level set the taxes!!

What is wrong with people!!!!! Grrr
The town does not care about the property, they are only concerned with getting the taxes due on it. You can talk to the Tax Assessor's office but I doubt they will be of much help. Good luck, Jay
